I am not a member of a political party nor have run for election before.

Issues facing the Mornington Peninsula Shire include the growing population of unhoused and houseless residents. Increased crisis accommodation is a necessity, and the council must look farther afield at exemplars that address this issue, including fundamental support services. When people are housed, have connection, are cared for and are accepted, then the whole community benefits. As households learn to manage the rising cost of living by cutting back on non-essentials, so too must the MPSC. The council has an obligation to deliver safe roads, free from potholes and roadside debris. If the Peninsula wants to remain a region to attract tourists, then the main arterials and network of roads needs to be maintained. Protecting our environments and biodiversity, while increasing housing and unique business opportunities requires prudent planning. Increasing access for those with limited mobility to recreational facilities, beaches and parks should be a higher priority if the Shire is to be more inclusive. The MPSC must demonstrate it can maintain current actions and programs while continuing to build trust with the community, before starting any new projects.

I have over 20 years’ experience in education, having held leadership roles and improved initiatives as per Annual Implementation Plans. My experience includes, targeting resources required to achieve better outcomes for student learning needs, making sound judgements using evidence and a disciplined approach and communicating with transparency to enhance collaboration. I have worked in various Professional Learning Communities to create and sustain a learning culture that is grounded in principles and applies an improvement cycle. During my placement with Australian Volunteers International in South Africa I developed sports and health related programs in disadvantaged communities. Skills required included extensive networking, clear understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility and cultural communication.

I support the strategic re-zoning of surplus Port-zoned SUZ-1 land to industrial and residential use, provided it aligns with sustainable growth and community needs.

The MPSC can assist to meet the State Governments targets, however more residential land is required than the current amount of green wedge will allow. Prioritising affordable and social housing and seeking innovative approaches through engaging the community is required. Significant upgrades to public transport, roads and infrastructure are necessary.

Yes, it is fundamental to the Peninsula. The MPSC has advocated for funding, which I will continue to support..

I was born and raised on the Peninsula and will support organisations and clubs who foster a progressive community. I am transparent and will work so that all residents have their voices heard. Those who are on the fringe of our community will have their local advocate.

I aim to be the type of councillor where all our residents and community can say they have had their voices heard, acknowledged and acted upon. My legacy will be doing the small things well, consistently. I will ‘roll up the sleeves’ to support our local groups always to advance our progressive community.

The relationship between the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and the CFMP is crucial for strategic planning. Our municipalities are reliant on the success of the other. Therefore, strong collaboration and combined advocacy to State and Federal Government is imperative.
