CfMP Welcomes Cr Susan Bissinger as the Newest Nepean Ward Councillor

15 April 2021

The Committee for Mornington Peninsula welcomes the election of Cr Susan Bissinger as a Nepean Ward Councillor, as announced today by the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council.

In the 2020 Council elections, Cr Bissinger ran a community-focussed campaign for the townships of Portsea, Sorrento, Blairgowrie, Rye and Tootgarook with a strong emphasis on delivering outcomes for local residents and businesses whilst protecting the natural environment.

Committee for Mornington Peninsula Executive Officer, Briony Hutton said, “The Committee looks forward to working with Cr Bissinger in the priority areas she identified in her election campaign, including rebuilding businesses, upgrading infrastructure, improving public transport, encouraging tourism and improving town planning processes.”

Cr Bissinger was elected as a Councillor for the Nepean Ward in a countback of all of the votes cast in the October 2020 local government elections, following the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of long-serving Councillor, Hugh Fraser, on 9 March.

“The Committee for Mornington Peninsula thanks Mr Fraser for his service to the community through his nine years as a Councillor in the Nepean Ward of the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council,” Ms Hutton said.

The Committee acknowledges former Councillor Fraser’s contributions to the Point Nepean National Park Masterplan Implementation Committee, International Council for Local Environment Initiatives Steering Committee and the delivery of the Yawa Aquatic Centre in Rosebud.

We also recognise Mr Fraser’s community achievements including helping to establish the Rye Beach Business Association, his work on the $6.5 million Rye Township Plan, the construction of the $3 million Blairgowrie to Point Nepean Road footpath, the acquisition of the Flinders Street, Rye park, the Sullivan Bay Dorothy Houghton Walk and improvements to the George Street Mall in Sorrento.
