Despite more than $750m being poured into the transformation of a once struggling seaside suburb – including luxe residential developments – locals say Frankston’s gateway, which is used by 60,000 motorists daily, still looks “like a war zone”.Graffiti, broken road signs and litter line Frankston Freeway and the Beach St underpass, which is a key entry to the city from nearby Peninsula Link has been in urgent need of a makeover for at least ten years, say frustrated locals.

Committee for Frankston and Mornington Peninsula chief executive Josh Sinclair said the stretch of freeway was the main entrance to Frankston City for most Melburnians and was in “an abhorrent state”.
“One major exit is missing its sign completely and VicRoads appear to be in no hurry to fix it,” Mr Sinclair said.
“Basic works to clean up these signs, road barriers and graffiti really should be part of the Government’s routine work – not a critical election issue.”
