Helping Enhance Tourism Opportunities

Committee for Mornington Peninsula facilitated a forum with Shadow Minister for Tourism, Events and Sport - and Member for Nepean - Sam Groth, to discuss with tourism stakeholders on the Mornington Peninsula the opportunities and challenges for our region.

We were delighted to be able to engage with more than 30 stakeholders - including the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, Mornington Peninsula Regional Tourism, and leading businesses - and hear directly from them about what tourism in our region looks like in a post-covid environment.

Competition, tourist spend, cost of living, inflation and accommodation were key issues raised by attendees. Additionally, while the Victorian Commonwealth Games in 2026 is fantastic for our State and a great legacy project for parts of Regional Victoria, the Committee is concerned that the byproduct of investing in those regions means the Mornington Peninsula could miss out on Government investment.

As such, we are seeking to partner with the Victorian Government to help attract visitors to the Mornington Peninsula and ensure our region can benefit from the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

We would encourage all members and our community to make submissions to the Mornington Peninsula Shire's Economic Development and Tourism Strategy currently underway here.

The Committee for Mornington Peninsula continues to advocate with a collective voice directly to State and Federal Governments to make significant investments in our region.

The Committee would like to thank Shadow Minister and Local MP Sam Groth for his time with Committee members and local businesses, and we'd like to thank the Peninsula Hot Springs for hosting this event.
