Land Tax Roundtable
Committee members were today provided with a briefing on land tax obligations by an expert valuer and tax lawyer.
Macpherson Kelley's Thomas Abraham SC provided guests with some insights on state taxation and its regional impact, including land tax obligations, potential exemptions, summary of recent changes, the vacant residential land tax (which affects the Mornington Peninsula Shire disproportionately), and the Commercial and Industrial Property Tax (CIPT).
M3 Valuer, Luana Kenny, provided context to the State Government's recent changes to Land Tax, which have led to rapid increases for many local residents and businesses - as well as providing some guidance around objections.
Members were joined by Chris Crewther, the State Member for Mornington, and Zoe McKenzie, the Federal Member for Flinders.
Like the shorty stay levy, this is a State wide tax that bears a heavy burden on the Mornington Peninsula. The Committee will continue to raise our concerns about the impact of land tax in our region to both Government and Opposition in the lead up to November's State Election and the upcoming Nepean by-election.
Thank you to Smart Business Solutions for hosting this roundtable discussion, and to Macpherson Kelley and Australian Unity for facilitating the conversation.
