Youth Homelessness Forum
On Friday 7 August, CFMP Members took part in a briefing and forum on youth homelessness on the Mornington Peninsula, with presentations from Mornington Peninsula Shire, Lighthouse Foundation, and Fusion Mornington Peninsula - in recognition of Homelessness Week.
Our guest speakers included:
- Petrina Dodds-Buckley, Mornington Peninsula Shire
- Jo Stanley, Head of Partnerships at Lighthouse Foundation
- Brenda Boland, CEO Lighthouse Foundation
- Kristy Begbie, Housing Coordinator and Case Worker at Fusion Mornington Peninsula
Together, members were presented with the latest data on youth homelessness on the Peninsula and heard stories from our frontline services.
Last Financial year, 62 young people - who were rough sleeping or homeless - accessed support services or were
identified as rough sleeping.
15% of young people in our region are worried about having a safe place to stay. The Victorian average is 9%.
On the Peninsula, Lighthouse has a dedicated therapeutic practitioner with a focus on their work with young parents with children and a
focus on early intervtion before becoming homeless.
Thanks to our local representatives who came along too, including Paul Mercurio MP, Anthony Marsh MP, Chris Crewther MP, Cr Stephen Batty and Cr Patrick Binyon.
Special thanks to the Neary Family Charity for helping assist with this forum.
